Dammit dammit dammit

Lou Rawls has died.

Some celebrity deaths are passing sad, and some make me want to bawl. This one is definitely of the bawling variety for me. I have two favorite Christmas cds. One is Charlie Brown. The other is Lou Rawls. I listened to that damned cd hundreds of times after my father died.

Now, the two men are tied together in my head. They had nothing in common. My father was a red-head who couldn’t sing a lick. But both had deep voices and both were my security blankets.

Goodbye, Lou.

  1. I don’t think it’s silly to be upset over the passing of someone you don’t know, especially a musician. I agree with Pater, “all art constantly aspires to the condition of music.” I tend to find myself overwhelmingly upset about the deaths of poets and musicians.

  2. You’re right, Kevin.

To be honest, I was stunned at my reaction. I actually read it on your blog, which was better than stumbling across it on the news. Thanks for posting it.

Right now, I’m listening to “You’ll Never Find Another Love Like Mine” which seems appropriate.

    Thanks for stopping by.

  3. Hi Julie

Just passing by via blog surfing. I agree with Kevin and I miss Lou Rawls too. I have just moved to a new house and too my horror, my collection of Charlie Brown books are missing! No one seems to know where they are. Urghh..! So I have lost two security blankets. I am hanging on to Dilbert.
