  1. Here’s a good place to start researching:

    Consumer Reprts on treadmills

Unfortunately, some of the links here can be accessed only if you have joined CR, but there are several sections on basic information that are accessible to anyone.

There’s a very broad range of treadmills in terms of both quality and price; you have to have a fairly clear idea of how much use one will get to decide what kind and price range is best. My experience (having had an ex who was addicted to purchasing but not necessarily using the things) is that you get what you pay for: less expensive models are cheaper in almost all respects; if it’s going to receive significant use over a lengthy period of time (and the vast majority of purchased exercise equipment does not), a larger, more substantial and more expensive model ($1,000 to $1,400) are worth the cost in the long run. But that’s also a generalized observation.

  2. Thanks for the link, H.

We have a recumbent bike that we’ve had for a few years and we’ve never stopped using it, so I think that the treadmill will get used.

I still haven’t figured out where to put the thing, though!
