The continued absence of Chain Reading has led me to try substitutes. Right now, I’m experimenting with a very similar site called Shelfari. I’ve added a link to my reading list in the sidebar. It’s cute. I find the user interface a bit wonky, I’ll admit, and they don’t seem to have a bookmarklet so that if I see a book on Amazon I can just click a button and have it added to my “to be read” pile.
I’m also looking again at LibraryThing which does have a bookmarklet, but I really don’t like the interface there. They also charge for power use. And despite them having checkboxes that say, “Don’t ask me again” they always do ask me again. About everything. It makes me want to bite.
So I’m still mourning the loss of my list from Chain Reading, and mourning the interface there. Chain Reading, you’re the one that I want (you are the one I want)!
chain reading seems to be working at the moment.
Yes! Thanks for the heads up, Harry.
Glad you guys think it’s working. I still have the error message. My withdrawal is not helped by knowing that others can access it!
Sorry, we’re rubbing salt on the wound, eh? But it really is working for me. Try again?
If I use http://www.chainreading.com I get the error message but I see that by using http://www.chainreading.com/books it works fine. I can feel the cold turkey fading away as I type. (I am Ten Taxis, by the way, and found you via PFFA.
Hey guys, sorry about the downtime… the server had some ‘issues’ caused by somebody at the datacenter while i was on vacation, so it stayed down much longer than it should have 🙁
thanks for the patience, I didn’t really think anyone would notice – it’s nice to know people like the service! gives me motivation to implement the huge list of improvements i want to, however I still have the problem of finding the time 🙂
(also – it should all be working now.. if not let me know , my name at gmail.com)

Hi, Jerrett!
I’m so glad you brought the site back. I’m sure my friends are sick of hearing me whining about it, so they’re glad, too. 😀
Other than the bookmarklet not working any longer, everything seems to be cruising along beautifully. I really need to stop adding books to my to be read pile, though. Ouch.
Julie
wierd, i didn’t write the bookmarklet .. I’ll look at it and fix or rewrite it!
