Returning from self-imposed Harry Potter exile

I was avoiding the internet generally for the sheer number of jerks who seemed to have nothing better to do than to spoil the last book.

I’m not going to spoil it.

I will say I’m sorry to say goodbye to the series, though. It’s quite an accomplishment. I don’t care if some people don’t like the books (personally, I love them), but you can’t take away from what JK Rowling has done. That’s some serious kicking ass and taking names in the bookselling department.

  1. I don’t mind people who have read the books making critical comments about them, and I don’t even mind when people say they are not interested in reading them. Perhaps I don’t even mind when people say that they want to read other books instead. But I really do mind when people seem to imply that I must be stupid to enjoy them (especially those who admit to never having read them).

  2. Still waiting for my copy to arrive.

I ordered from the UK. Nothing like having the Real Thing (complete with the proper spellings).

I will never forgive myself for owning The Sorcerer’s Stone. Nor will I ever forgive Scholastic for rewriting that little piece of legend.

  3. Thank you for not posting any spoilers, Julie! My kiddos have *both* copies and I won’t be able to even start it until next week. Waaaah!

  4. Waaaah, I finished it too. The end of an era, it feels like.

Good thing I can go back to the beginning and read them again.

I wish I could have read it more slowly–let it last longer than way.

  5. I’m considering that too – re-reading the entire series! It is sad that there won’t be any more, but it was well done!
